Hello there. How’s 2024 going for you? We’ve been hunkered down, weathering the mizzle and daydreaming about lighter, brighter days with great wines, stories and folk for company… and now it’s here!
Spring has showed its face and so we’re taking its lead, with a series of Read Between the Wines events in the offing. Here’s a taster of what’s in store over the next few months. We’ll be back in touch with more detail on each soon but for now if you’re keen on joining us for some stellar writing, tasty pairings, fresh perspectives, and a deep dive into flavour and character this year then be sure to earmark one or two of these dates…
The Roseland Festival
St Mawes Hotel, 26 April, 6pm
We’re thrilled to be part of this year’s Roseland Festival, taking to the St Mawes Hotel to revel in word and winecraft for an hour or two. For this event we’ll be pairing three delectable wines with the incredible short story, ‘Yoruba Man Walking’, by Bernardine Evaristo. Set in 1880s Cornwall its vividly evoked world of ocean, moor, love and loss will make for rich pairing territory not to mention fascinating conversation. With only a handful of tickets left, if you’re keen to come along keep your eyes peeled on the 28 March, when general tickets go on sale.
Creative Scilly
St Martins Vineyard, 12 May, 2.30pm
Situated on the south-facing slopes of St. Martin’s, just a stone’s throw from the shore, this Scillies winery is a wildlife haven with sustainability at its heart, ‘highly commended’ in the 2022 Cornwall Sustainability Awards. We’re switching things up with our St Martins Vineyard collaboration, finding a story to pair with their wines rather than the other way round. Details are still taking shape, but we’re picturing some walking, readings amongst the vines and a vibrant tasting of both words and wine of course. Cornish-raised but seldom having ventured Scilly-ward, we really can’t wait for this one. We’ve heard Scilly in spring is unmissable.

Read Between the Wines Classic
Espressini, Falmouth, 27 June, 7pm
After such a wonderful get together in December last year, we’re returning to Espressini for another helping in June. We’re working with the team on choosing some special wines for the event, to match with just the right story. Tickets will be available from end of May – so stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
Later in the year there’s also talk of Falmouth Book Festival fringe, a possible Christmas party, maybe a podcast and even a publication. Of course most of these are pipe dreams and may or may not materialise but spring is the season for optimistic thinking right? Who knows what the rest of 2024 will hold?
Look forward to seeing you all over a glass and a finely crafted paragraph soon…
